July Tech Tip - Driveline Maintenance
During maintenance each week the driveline should be carefully inspected. With the rear end on ride height blocks, remove the torque ball from housing and slide it down the torque tube. With the torque ball housing and torque tube now exposed, clean all grease and debris. Now that everything is clean, grease the torque ball and tube, as well as the housing and re-assemble. We recommend using Red-Line CV2 synthetic grease. The torque ball should be able to spin smoothly in the housing. Now remove the torque tube from the rear end. Inspect the drive shaft for wear. If you use a 10/10 coupler make sure it is pinned and safety wired. Put a thin coating of anti-seize on the drive shaft and re-install. If any contact has been made in the previous weeks racing, you should check your Torque Tube and Drive Shaft for truness. Using these procedures weekly you will significantly increase the life of your driveline. If you have any questions regarding this topic feel free to e-mail me garrett@mpdracing.com. |
