May Tech Tip - Pit Boss Maintenance
During the winter months it is a great time to send in your Pit Boss and have a complete service done. Everything will be gone through including the hydraulics. Your jack will be good as new upon return. This month I’m going to give you a few tips to help keep your jack in good operating condition during the season. The dirt track guys especially put their jack through the most extreme conditions. A typical habit is to wash your car with a high pressure washer with the jack under your car. Although it would be easier on your jack to put the car on jack stands, this isn’t always practical when you are at a car wash in the middle of the night. Be sure to always blow the excess water off your jack before storing it. Each week you should lubricate all the pivot points on your jack. We recommend using LPS brand Red & Redi grease. This is a penetrating grease in an aerosol can. Keep an eye on the fluid level of your jack, but NEVER OVERFILL. This will cause damage to the hydraulics. To check the fluid level of your jack turn the handle counter clock wise. With the jack handle all the way down the fluid should be level with the bottom of the filling neck (not in the cap area). If you are low add the necessary amount of Pit Boss oil. If you take care of your jack through the season, and do a standard maintenance every winter your jack will last forever.
